How Our Sessions Work

Our classes run in structured sessions throughout the year, designed to align closely with the local school calendar. We typically start, end, and break when schools do, making scheduling easier for families.

We offer six sessions per year:

Gymnastics

Gymnastics Michiana offers classes for all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced.

  • Our Pre-School Program uses colorful equipment to engage young children while building strength, coordination, and body awareness.

Tumbling

We offer tumbling classes for ages 7 and up, from beginner through advanced levels.

Gymnastics Classes

  • Children who are in their early two's will enjoy tumbling and other motor movements as they experiment with different forms of play both creatively and by imitating others in class.

  • Young children who enjoy activities of all types will enjoy this class. It is designed to make them more aware of their bodies and its abilities as well as to help them in different types of motor activities.

    Parents and children attend and work together under expert supervision.

  • Children will work on advanced motor movement activities without the parent, but still under expert supervision. Students gain a sense of independence and start to grasp concepts like following directions, waiting their turn, performing drills on their own, and gain self-confidence through milestone accomplishments.

    The skills learned at this level will give them a great foundation to move onto the more complex gymnastics skills of the four-year-old class.

  • This class is intended for four-year-olds that have had no experience in gymnastics or tumbling. Balance beam, vaulting, and uneven bars, with a special emphasis on tumbling are presented at this level.

    This class presents the basic gymnastics skills early to help the child become accustomed to the postitions, terms, and concepts of gymnastics and particularly tumbling. An early start may also help overcome a fear of heights and of turning over.

  • I.G.S is for 5 & 6 year-olds who have little or no experience in gymnastics. Balance beam, vaulting, and uneven bars, with a special emphasis on tumbling are presented in this class.

    The basic gymnastics skills are presented early to help the child become accustomed to the positions, terms, and concepts of gymnastics and particularly tumbling while working with their own peer group for better socialization. An early start may also help overcome a fear of heights and of turning over.

  • This class is for individuals who have had little or no experience in gymnastics and tumbling in this age group, or younger children who are able to execute the skills of the I.G.S. class.

    They will receive instruction on uneven bars, balance beam, tumbling, and vaulting. This age is a wonderful time for children to start acquiring fundamental strengths and skills to use in any future sports endeavor.

  • This class is open to any youngster who is 10 years or older, or any gymnast who has achieved the required Junior Gymnastic skills.

    Seven to nine year olds with little to no experience should take Junior Gymnastics first. Instruction covers vaulting, uneven bars, balance beam, and tumbling.

  • This class is designed for the female gymnast who has mastered the Basic Gymnastics class skills on the apparatus. In this class, the gymnast will be working on front-hip-circles and glide-kip progression on the uneven bars, handspring vaults, and cartwheels & handstands on beam.

    Tumbling is NOT a part of this class. (Must have pre-requisite skills to be in this class.)

  • This class is the first all boys class for those who have a basic knowledge of swinging and tumbling and are ready to concentrate on the six men's events (Tumbling, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar).

  • This class is the next step for all boys who have mastered the skills of Beginning Boys Gymnastics and are ready to challenge themselves even further. (Must have pre-requisite skills to be in this class.)

  • Private lessons are available if an instructor has the time to teach one. Private lessons should not be requested by anyone who is not motivated and who does not have specific goals in mind.

Tumbling Classes

  • This class is for those who want to learn tumbling skills only and are not interested in working the apparatus (vault, bars, and beam).

    This class builds a foundation of tumbling skills for students to use when they move onto every other tumbling class. This class should be taken prior to Tumbling 2, if little or no experience.

  • In this class, the gymnast will be working on front and back walkovers, front and back handsprings, one-arm cartwheels, and round-off back handsprings. (Must have pre-requisite skills to be in this class.)

  • More advanced tumbling is done on such things as aerial cartwheels and series of back handsprings as well as front and back somersaults. The gymnast should have control of a back and front handspring before taking this class. (Must have pre-requisite skills to be in this class.)
